A personal's fortunes changed suddenly while President Lázaro Cárdenas enacted a land reform and peasant emancipation policy that stripped the personal of good deal of its land holdings. At 16, Rosario Castellanos & her parents moved to Mexico City. 1 season late, her parents were dead & she was left to support herself.

Although she remained self-examining, she joined the class action of Mexican & Central American intellectuals, read extensively, & began to write. She exposed philosophy and literature at the National University, where she would late teach, & joined a National Indigenous Institute, writing scripts for puppet shows that were staged in impoverished regions to promote literacy. Ironically, a Institute got been founded by President Cárdenas, world health organization got taken away her personal's land. She too wrote the hebdomadally column for the newspaper Excélsior.

Throughout her career, Castellanos wrote poetry, essays, & ii novels: a semi-autobiographical Balún Canán & Oficio diamond state tinieblas (English title The Book of Lamentations) depicting a tzotzil indigenous uprising around Chiapas according to a single that got occured in the 19th century. Within recognition for her contribution to Mexican literature, Castellanos was appointed that united states's ambassador to Israel.
